Course Overview & Objectives

This workshop is aimed at those who are new to the handling of third party claims. The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of the legal principles in establishing third party liability, the process for handling third party property claims and an introduction to the quantification of a personal injury claim. The course will focus on establishing liability and the quantification of property damage claims

Attending this course will enable you to:

  • Understand the benefits of the claims service to key stakeholders
  • Apply the principles of insurance to third party claims
  • Establish the liability for third party claims
  • Identify and apply appropriate statute and case law to third party claims
  • Understand the investigation options and how to quantify a third party claim
  • Outline the different heads of claim for a personal injury claim and the process for the quantification these claims
  • Identify opportunities for recoveries
  • Understand key elements of the litigation process

At the end of the course you will have both a greater knowledge and understanding of the subject matter and be more confident in handling claims

Training Approach 

This workshop uses a combination of trainer input, interactive syndicate work and case studies. Group size is kept to a maximum of 16 to create a supportive learning environment and facilitate knowledge transfer and experience sharing.


Course Leader: Beverley Lyn MBA FCII 

Beverley has over 25 years’ experience in the Insurance Industry. Her technical career was  developed in the claims arena with Zurich and Independent. In recent years she worked for AXA insurance in senior claim roles, both operational and strategic. Beverley combines her strong technical knowledge with a passion for developing people to deliver lively and interactive training that enables delegates to fully participate and maximise their learning potential. Beverley provides consultancy and training services for a number of clients, including major insurers, training firms and the Chartered Insurance Institute, for whom she has authored elements of the CII syllabus.
